8 MILE
Não importa o lugar onde vivemos nem quem somos, todos nós estamos atrelados a certas fronteiras… algumas reais, outras imaginárias. Muitos de nós se sentem felizes por viverem dentro desses limites; outros, sentem-se forçados a isso. Mas há ainda aqueles que precisam romper essa limitação mesmo achando que o que há do outro lado é assustador e desconhecido. “8 Mile” é uma história sobre os limites que definem as nossas vidas e sobre a luta de um rapaz para encontrar forças e coragem para transcendê-los. Um jovem MC branco chamado Jimmy Smith Jr. mora na parte perigosa de Detroit, conhecido como “8 Mile”. O pessoal de Detroit conhecem 8 Mile como o limite da cidade, a fronteira, a divisa. É uma rua que divide os negros e brancos de Detroit. “8 Mile é como uma linha das cores de Detroit. De um lado (maioria são negros) é Detroit, do outro lado (maioria são brancos) é Warren. Eu cresci no lado de Detroit, mas todo lugar que eu morei era perto dessa divisa.” Eminem explica. É também uma linha que divide e separa Jimmy Smith Jr. de onde e quem ele quer ser na vida. É praticamente baseado na vida do Marshall Bruce Mathers III, mas não é uma biografia do Marshall Mathers, é sobre o personagem Jimmy. No filme, Jimmy passa por vários obstáculos difíceis envolvendo sua ex-namorada Janeane, sua mãe desgraçada Stephanie (Kim Bassinger), o namorado da sua mãe Greg, que tem quase a mesma idade de Jimmy, seus amigos e a luta para conseguir respeito como um MC. Jimmy Smith Jr. passa por uma crise de identidade e procura por um sentido para sua vida. Para extravasar sua raiva e angústia, o rapaz usa a música. Jimmy Smith tem que vencer batalhas de rap para conseguir o respeito de todos e um lugar no mundo do hip hop. Eminem comenta sobre isso dizendo: “Eu me lembro bem como era. Se eu perdesse uma batalha, o meu mundo desmoronava. As pessoas diziam: ‘Qual o problema? Reaja!’. ‘Você perdeu, tente de novo’. Mas eu sentia como se fosse a própria morte. É uma competição. Como o esporte, que é a vida do atleta”. No filme, Jimmy tem todo o talento que precisa para vencer, mas precisa encontrar a sua voz e canalizar a sua raiva para a música. À medida que a encontra, ele começa a encontrar também o seu caminho e o desejo de avançar em novas estradas, que o levarão além desses limites, dentro dos quais ele não consegue mais viver. 8 Mile tem como destaque Kim Bassinger, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Eugene Byrd e claro, o rapper multi-platina Eminem, que faz sua estréia em seu primeiro filme. “8 Mile” foi lançado no dia 8 de novembro de 2002 nos EUA e no Brasil no dia 21 de março de 2003. O título em português é “8 Mile – Rua Das Ilusões.” A trilha sonora do filme conta com D12, Nas, Jay-Z, Xzibit, 50 Cent, Obie Trice, Eminem e mais. Nos EUA, saiu uma edição especial da trilha, contendo mais um cd com samplers dos artistas da Shady Records.
